About the Range
Maharashtra State Police jurisdiction was divided into 25 Districts and 4 Ranges in 1956. Later in 1973, Amravati Range came into existence on May 1st, 1973, under Govt. of Maharashtra, Home Department Resolution dated 26th April 1973.
In 1998, Akola district was bifurcated and Amravati Commissionerate was created. The post was upgraded as Special Inspector General of Police, Amravati Range.
Amravati Range is headed by Spl. IGP having control over 5 districts: Amravati (Rural), Akola, Buldana, Yavatmal and Washim.
